Perfectionism Sucks

  1. a refusal to accept any standard short of perfection.

I am a self-confessed perfectionist. I strive for everything to be just-so. I strive for the perfect grades, the perfect blog layout, the perfect life... the list goes on.

Perfectionism is, arguably, a positive trait. It drives those who have it to do their best, but it can also drive them down a path of self depreciation.

An example of this is exam results days. I am yet to be over the moon despite having three of them to date, as I always focus on that one exam I 'should've done better on.'

I understand that failure is a fundamental part of learning; I accept when I haven't done well in a recent essay. But when faced with both a failure and an overwhelming victory, I pay very little attention to the latter and an extensive amount on the former.

This needs to stop.

I need to start congratulating myself on victories, instead of putting them aside and striving for a 'better next time.' I need to start practising what I preach to everyone else. I need to start being kinder to myself.

And you do, too. Let the following be a reminder:

  • Do not dwell on the 'failures.'
  • Congratulate yourself on every victory, no matter how great or small.
  • Remember you are worth the same amount of love as you bestow to others.
  • Life is short; spend time living instead of perfecting.
  • Do not compare yourself to others. They are walking down a different path to you.
  • You are a whole human being; your worth is not summed up by anything on paper.
  • You are you, and that is more than enough ❤

Feel-Good Films

Sometimes you find yourself in a slump. Sometimes it's a pretty deep rut, a place you are not sure where on earth to turn next. Sometimes, you just want to curl up on the sofa and lost yourself in a different world displayed on the television screen before you.

This post is here for when you are experiencing these 'sometimes.'

LEGALLY BLONDE // 'Exercise gives you endorphins; endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't kill their husbands.' I've recently re-watched this film and it, in fact, inspired me to write this post for you lovely lot. Elle Woods is unbelievably good at getting back at people; some moments are just so satisfying.  If you're feeling unmotivated or disheartened, this is a perfect pick me up.

LA LA LAND // Fact: This is the only film I have ever watched twice in the cinema. Surely that speaks volumes already? This film is highly personal and highly inspiring; I have been involved in drama since a young age and it encapsulates just about every fear I have. Nevertheless, it reminds me to continue to follow my dreams as a creative.

BILLY ELLIOT // Billy grows up in a small mining village in County Durham, England; he wants to be a dancer, but this is unheard of. Whilst watching a young boy pursue his talents, you will begin to realise the importance of striving for your own.

MAMMA MIA // This film has some fantastic classic actors, such as Colin Firth and Meryl Streep. Sometimes you need to invite the girls over for a sing-a-long to these fab ABBA hits. I can still recall our last Summer...

ABOUT TIME // Richard Curtis is one of my absolute favourite British screenwriters. With huge titles such as "Love Actually" and "Bridget Jones' Diary" (both of which I ADORE) this was hardly going to be a disappointment. Domnhall Gleeson as Tim is so real and I just love everything about this film. It makes me want to wear pretty clothes and marry a ginger person... enough said.

HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE // Get into your pyjamas (if they're HP, ten points... see what I did there? Sorry...) and lose yourself in the adventures of a tiny Daniel Radcliffe playing Harry Potter. This is a go-to for improved happiness, thank you once again J.K. Rowling!

PRIDE // Based on a true story, this comedy-drama depicts a group of gay activists who raised funds to help those affected by the British miners' strike in 1984. Tackling such vital subjects, especially at a time like this when Trump is president, it is a film that needs to be watched to restore your faith in humanity.

Summer 2017: Makeup Favourites

1. SLEEK HIGHLIGHTING PALETTE // I received this palette for Christmas and it is just lovely. The shimmery shades are perfect for my cheekbones and nose, whilst the other two are lovely for the finishing touches. I especially like the gold shade to add a glowing, sun-kissed look.

2. NYX MATTE LIQUID LIPSTICK (08) // This is definitely my favourite item in the post. It's AMAZING. I've heard wonders about these liquid lipsticks and decided to try it out. I wanted a lip product that wasn't drying, but didn't slide off within the first ten minutes of wear. This is the perfect medium between the two and lasts for ages; perfect!

3. NO7 EYESHADOWS // I have had these eyeshadows for longer than I care to admit, but they are fab. The colour variation means that they all co-ordinate so well if I put them together, and I love the way they brighten my eyelids.

4. NO7 EYELASH CURLERS // These do exactly what they supposed to do; they're sturdy and look lovely with their gold colour. What more could you want?!

OOTD: Brights on the Beach

I recently went on a rather windy walk on the beach with the family and to brighten up the occasional showers and typical Welsh weather, I decided to wear bright colours!

This is very much an imperfect 'Outfit of the Day;' I could hardly see because the wind was so strong and I have no makeup on apart from some lipstick. But sometimes reality is the best policy... I hope you like the outfit I put together on this wet day!
